Gretha Tuls was born in Enschede, The Netherlands, where Hannie Kruijt taught her the bassoon from the age of 9. She studied at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague with Johan Steinmann, Prof Gustavo Núñez, Dorian Cooke, and at the Musik Hochschule Mannheim with Prof Ole Kristian T. Dahl. Gretha has recently been appointed Principal Bassoon of the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra and in the Residentie Orchestra The Hague. She has held permanent principal bassoon positions with The Hallé and the CBSO (2010-2016). Gretha has played with orchestras around Europe, including the LSO, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin and London Philharmonic. Her chamber music engagements include the Klangforum Wien and Birmingham Contemporary Music Group.
