Mephisto Waltz No. 1, s. 514
Distinguished Québécois pianist Alain Lefèvre comes to the festival for the first time for a recital at the Holywell Music Room that takes in the suggestive, sensual world of Claude Debussy across four works and the virtuosic domain of the first virtuoso composer-pianist of the twentieth-century, Sergei Rachmaninov. Spliced between the two, Lefèvre examines the hypnotic, destructive power of the waltz: from Liszt’s vision of Mephistopheles intoxicating a tavern audience to Ravel’s prophecy of a golden age coming crashing down.
The concert is scheduled to end at approximately 21:50.
