The two Paris sonatas featured in this
second concert, K. 304 and 306, are contemporaneous with the
Mannheim pieces but their rapidly developing emotional range
– notably the minor key melancholic introspection of K.
304 – gives a hint of the accomplishments which lie
ahead. These are exemplified by the quite grand and spacious
1785 Viennese sonata K. 481, complete with its preview of a
theme from the ‘Jupiter’ Symphony.
