In the year commemorating the 100th anniversary of Sir Michael Tippett’s birth, the Oxford Philomusica is joined by the Oxford Bach Choir and their conductor Nicholas Cleobury in a performance of the composer’s moving oratorio, A Child of Our Time.
A Child of Our Time was composed between 1939 and 1941, a period that had a profound effect on Tippett. The shocking events that took place during that time stunned him into composing an oratorio using his own text, to illustrate and examine how violence begets more violence.
